Former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has expressed positivity about the recent meeting between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) administrators and former Pakistan cricketers. Mohammad Hafeez hoped that constructive discussions and valuable insights would benefit Pakistan's cricket development.

The Babar Azam-led team suffered a disappointing group-stage exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the need for a significant overhaul in Pakistan cricket. Naqvi stated that "major surgery" was needed after they failed to reach the Super Eight in the recently concluded tournament.

The PCB Chairman hosted a meeting with former Pakistan players in Lahore to discuss player development, strategies to enhance domestic cricket, and the national team's performance. The meeting included recommendations from former players aimed at improving the team's performance and player fitness.

Must Be A Healthy Discussion For The Right Solution - Mohammad Hafeez

In response to the PCB chairman's meeting with former cricketers, Mohammad Hafeez highlighted the potential for valuable insights to benefit Pakistan cricket. He hoped for constructive discussions leading to responsible plans and solutions for the sport's advancement.

"Good to see cricket legends along with PCB administrators set together. Hopefully PCB administrators will take valuable ideas from cricket minds. Must be a healthy discussion for the right solution with responsible plans of Pakistan cricket. Best wishes," Mohammad Hafeez wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Mohammad Hafeez served as Director of Cricket and head coach for a brief period. Hafeez replaced Mickey Arthur as Director of Cricket after the ODI World Cup 2023, where Pakistan failed to advance to the semifinals. He was sacked by the PCB after losing series to Australia and New Zealand across formats.

Mohsin Naqvi emphasized his commitment to uplifting the standards of Pakistan Cricket, focusing on improving first-class cricket and Under 19 tournaments. He stressed the importance of raising coaching standards to international levels and enhancing pitch quality across the country.

“The consultation with the former players will consistently take place to continue the betterment of Pakistan Cricket. The PCB will go to all lengths to uplift the standard of the game in the country."

“As many of the former players mentioned, the focus of PCB will surely be on improving the first-class game and the Under 19 tournaments. To adjust more games during the summer season in our domestic window, we are exploring venues in the northern areas like Abbottabad and Hunza."

“I do fully understand the need for bringing the quality of coaches to International standards and the PCB will take urgent measures to achieve that. We also have quality of the pitches in our mind and they will be improved as well.”

COO Salman Naseer, Director High-Performance Nadeem Khan, Director International Usman Wahla, Director of Domestic Cricket Operations Abdullah Khurram Niazi, Member of the Selection Committee Bilal Afzal, and other PCB officials attended the meeting.

Former cricketers Abdur Rauf, Aamer Malik, Asim Kamal, Azhar Khan, Azhar Mahmood, Basit Ali, Haroon Rashid, Ijaz Ahmed, Intikhab Alam, Iqbal Qasim, Mohammad Sami, Rashid Khan, Saleem Altaf, Saleem Yousuf, Salman Butt, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Sadiq Mohammad, Shafiq Ahmad, Shafqat Rana, Sikander Bakht, Wajahatullah Wasti, Yasir Hameed, and Yasir Shah were also present at the gathering.
