India National Cricket Team fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was rumoured to captain the Hyderabad cricket team in the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. Proving the speculations right, the state cricket authority of Hyderabad stated that Siraj will be the captain of the team for the first two matches of the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season, with Milind Kumar as his deputy.

During the absence of Siraj, Milind will be there to lead the team. Because of the national cricket team's commitments, Mohammed Siraj will not be able to continue with Hyderabad for the entire Ranji Trophy season.

Mohammed Siraj to play ODIs for India

Siraj has been included in the One Day International squad for the series against West Indies that will conclude on October 3 in New Chandigarh. Later in the year, India will face New Zealand for a T20I series as well.

In the lead-up to the 2027 ODI World Cup, the Indian team management wants to keep a strong set of players who could take the team ahead in the flagship tournament. While Mohammed Siraj is set to feature in the ODIs against West Indies, his chances to feature in the T20Is against New Zealand are not very bright, at least as of now.

Mohammed Siraj to lead Hyderabad in two Ranji Trophy matches

Keeping all possibilities and the responsibilities on Siraj's shoulders, the Hyderabad cricket association has named its squad for the first two matches only. They will play Tripura in their season opener from October 11 to 14; the venue for the match is yet to be decided. For the second match, Hyderabad will have to face Andhra from October 18 to 21.

The announcement to appoint Siraj as the leader of the side came at a time when the 32-year-old fast bowler had a bit of a hard time in domestic cricket. Despite doing a lot of hard work on the ground, the experienced fast bowler remains mostly ineffective.

Mohammed Siraj struggled a lot in the recent past

Search for wickets during his recent match for the South Zone in the final of the Duleep Trophy 2026. He picked only one wicket, bowling 41 overs across two innings in the match, which East Zone won based on the first-innings lead.

Siraj struggled in Sri Lanka as well during the two-match Test series as he managed to claim only four wickets in four innings. By playing a couple of Ranji Trophy matches for Hyderabad, he will try to come back to his original form at the highest end of the game. His return to form will be very crucial for the Indian cricket team.
