"I don’t have authority": Mohammad Rizwan publicly blames selectors for Pakistan cricket’s downfall

Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan has made a massive statement about the selection process of the team. He said that everyone knows what is happening in Pakistan Cricket and those who have authority are responsible for everything.

Pakistan National Cricket Team are having a time to forget at the international stage. Since the last few months, things have turned completely against them as they have been struggling badly in all three formats, which has seen them facing massive criticism from fans and experts around the globe.

Pakistan, under the leadership of Mohammad Rizwan, had a terrible outing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Being the host of the tournament, they failed to win a single game and faced the group stage exit, losing to New Zealand and India.

After that, they had a forgettable white-ball tour to New Zealand. First, they faced a 4-1 defeat in the T20I series under the leadership of Salman Agha, and then when senior players were back, they faced a whitewash in the ODI series against the second-string Kiwi side.

The person who has the authority should be answerable

With the team failing consistently, Mohammad Rizwan took a brutal dig at the selection committee. He said that he has no authority in selection matters and those who are in charge should answer it. Speaking to reporters ahead of the PSL 2025, he said:

"Everyone knows what is happening and what is not happening? I want to tell everyone that I do not have the authority to do this. Every person in the Pakistan team has his authority. The selection committee has its own authority. I have my own authority. But the person who has the authority should be answerable.

"I should answer it, the head coach should answer it, the selector should answer it. For whom should we answer? We should answer to the chairman. But you know, and I know that the selection committee itself says. if I am saying this in front of you, then there should not be need to make a headline.

Mohammad Rizwan further added that the selection committee is responsible for everything as they openly mention that they have the authority. He added:

"Because you know that when the selection committee comes in front of us, they say that we have role, we do this, we make this team, we take it. I have the authority, I have the authority to answer for it. Is there anything else? No, thank you."
