India's stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah has finally opened up on Virat Kohli and his batting form. Bumrah backed the veteran India batter to score runs in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Virat Kohli has been going through a rough patch recently after a disappointing home Test season during the Tests against Bangladesh and New Zealand. The 36-year-old scored 93 runs in three Tests against New Zealand at an average of 15.50.
However, Bumrah showed confidence in the talismanic batter and warned Australia ahead of the series. He claimed that Kohli will be amongst the runs soon by stating that he has worked extremely hard for the series.
Jasprit Bumrah breaks silence on Virat Kohli's recent form
During a press conference ahead of the opening Test between Australia and India, Jasprit Bumrah was asked about Virat Kohli's poor batting form and how he will cope with a strong Australian bowling attack in their own conditions.
India's stand-in captain showed confidence in Kohli and claimed that he does not need any input as he knows what he is doing. Bumrah also mentioned that one or two series do not define a great player like Virat Kohli.
"I don't have to say anything about Virat Kohli, the batter. He is one of the greats of the game. I don't need to give him any special input. He is the utmost professional. He is one of the leaders. I made my debut under him. He knows what he is doing. Okay, one or two series, here and there, can up and down," Bumrah said.
The 30-year-old further noted that Kohli is batting with full confidence and is looking to contribute to the team. He refused to jinx him further but mentioned that there were great signs looking at his batting in the nets.
"But, the confidence he has at this moment, I have no doubts about how he has prepared. He is looking to contribute. The signs are ominous, I don't want to jinx it by saying anything else, but he is looking in very good shape," he added.
Jasprit Bumrah to lead India
It is to be noted that Jasprit Bumrah will lead India in the first Test in Perth in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who hasn't yet traveled with the team to be with his wife for the birth of his second child.
However, he is likely to join the team before the second Test match in Adelaide, which will also be a day-night match. Rohit is also likely to play the warm-up match against Prime Minister's XI as well.
Virat Kohli in Australia
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has a good record in Australia. He has scored 1352 runs in 13 Tests at an average of 54.08 with six hundreds to his name. The record will give him confidence ahead of the much-important series.
Kohli was among the first to arrive in Australia for this series. He looks determined in the nets to prove himself again. His record in bouncy conditions is good which is a great sign for him.
