It feels good actually - Sanju Samson

Opting to bowl first, the Rajasthan Royals were off to a good start as Yudhvir Singh dismissed Devon Conway, Urvil Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja early on in the innings. Other than him, Akash Madhwal (3/29), Wanindu Hasaranga (1/27), and Tushar Deshpande (1/33) picked up wickets for the Rajasthan Royals.

Chasing the target, Yashasvi Jaiswal (36), Vaibhav Suryavanshi (57), and Sanju Samson (41) showcased a batting masterclass, before Dhruv Jurel (31*) and Shimron Hetmyer (12*) provided finishing touches.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, Sanju Samson said that they were unsure of batting second in the match after messing up several run-chases this season. He said:

"It feels good actually. We were thinking about whether to post a total on the board and then defend it or not. It was a last moment call for me as I thought there was no hiding in this game so I opted to chase again."

"Basically we have a very young bowling line-up. Some of the bowlers are stepping up which shows that the future looks good in this team. They are very young but they are very promising."

There has been lots and lots of work going around - Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson lauded pacer Akash Madhwal for his match-winning performance against CSK and revealed that he has been working hard with Shane Bond. He said:

"To be very honest, there has been lots and lots of work going around. I think he didn't play many games but he played the last four games for us. He has been working very closely with Shane Bond who is now in New Zealand. Hours and hours of spot bowling with him and that has given him a lot of success."

Sanju Samson further said that they need to analyse things deeply to understand what went wrong with RR in IPL 2025. He said:

"It definitely is very hard to win games in this tournament. The quality of the teams are quite similar but I think the margin of error in winning and losing is so less that we can't find out how we lost so many games this season. We need to sit and find out after this season what went wrong for us. We need to actually accept the mistakes we have done this season and move on from there."

In the end, Sanju Samson lavished rich praise on the 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi for his excellent performances with the bat. He elaborated:

"Yeah absolutely. I don't have words for him. The way he played that knock in Jaipur (Hundred vs GT). You have seen lot of games and youngsters but it was not proper swinging from him.

"He can hit u on the leg side, and he can read a slower ball and hit you over the covers as well. It tells you what kind of a temperament he has. Today, after the powerplay, the way he smartly adjusted himself to the situation of the game was simply brilliant. There is something special for Indian cricket following through."

How was RR's performance in the previous IPL match against CSK?

Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings by 6 runs in a thrilling Indian Premier League clash in Guwahati on March 30, 2025.

Being invited to bat first, RR posted a competitive score of 182/9 on the board, thanks to a breathtaking knock from Nitish Rana. They were off to a shaky start, but Rana didn't let his team go under pressure, and he slammed 81 runs off just 36 balls.

He was supported by Riyan Parag, who chipped in with a good 37 runs off 28 balls, and despite the late collapse, RR managed to breach the 180-run mark.

Defending the total, Jofra Archer removed Rachin Ravindra for a duck, but it was Wanindu Hasaranga who turned the match on its head with a sensational four-wicket haul.

Sandeep Sharma also chipped in with a wicket of MS Dhoni in the final over, and despite Ruturaj Gaikwad's heroics, RR managed to restrict CSK to 176/6.
