Yuvraj Singh had to make an apology to Kapil Dev because of some controversial comments made by his father, Yograj Singh. More than a year later, Kapil opens up about the controversial remarks made by Yograj Singh, who was his former teammate and a childhood friend as well.
During a YouTube podcast with Khel Tak, the former India captain reveals his thoughts on Yograj Singh’s comments, which made headlines last year in January. Kapil Dev, in response, says that there is no room for bitterness in his life.
Kapil Dev praises Yuvraj Singh for his contributions in Indian cricket
Kapil Dev says that Yuvraj did not need to make the apology after his father’s controversial remarks. Praising Yuvraj Singh, the former captain mentions that in his time, Yuvraj was a fantastic cricketer, who made the game more popular, which is more valuable than records or stats.
“No, there is no need to apologise. He is a great cricketer. What a fabulous player he was. And the way he served the country. I think he made the game more popular. Records keep coming back. But people loved him the way he played cricket. What a cricketer he was,” Kapil said in the podcast.
Kapil Dev issues open statement to Yograj Singh
Yograj Singh, in his viral statement, claimed that he was no longer a friend of Kapil because of some issues he mentioned in an interview. However, what actually happened between them was not clear.
In response, the legendary skipper says that he has no idea why Yograj issues such statements, but he still considers him a friend. Kapil further highlights that he likes to meet with happy people, not with those who live with bitterness in life.
“I don't know what he wants to say. I am still a friend. I don't like to meet bitter people in life. I like to meet happy people. There are many things. One has to move on in life. And if you are a bitter person, people won't love you. And his son has done so well,” he says in the same podcast session.
What did Yograj Singh say to Kapil Dev?
Last year in January, Yograj Singh, father of Yuvraj Singh, stated that he went to his friend’s house with a pistol in his pocket and used abusive words to teach Kapil Dev a lesson.
“My wife (Yuvi's mother) wanted me to ask Kapil questions. I told her that I would teach this bloody man a lesson. I took my pistol out, and I went to Kapil's house in Sector 9. He came out with his mother. I abused him a dozen times. I told him, ' Because of you, I have lost a friend, and what you have done, you will pay for it,” Yograj Singh said.
"I told him, 'I want to put a bullet through your head, but I am not doing it because you have a very pious mother, who is standing here.' I told Shabnam, 'Let's go.' That was the moment I decided I would not play cricket; Yuvi will play," he added.
