Pakistan superstar batsman Babar Azam has hailed the legendary Virat Kohli as one of the best players in the world besides adding that he feels privileged when pundits and fans compare him with the Indian captain.

Babar Azam has impinged himself as one of the best batsmen of the modern era and he has done that through consistent performances across all formats of the game in almost every condition.

Babar recently upstaged Virat Kohli from the No.1 spot in the ODI rankings thanks to his stupendous performances against South Africa.

However, Babar feels that comparison between him and Virat Kohli is unnecessary as both are completely different players. He added that his only aim is to keep performing on a consistent basis and win as many games as possible for his team.

‘’Virat Kohli is one of the best players in the world. He has performed everywhere and in big matches. When people compare us, I don’t feel pressure, I feel proud because they are comparing me with such a big player,’’ said Babar Azam during an interview with the Khaleej Times.

”Personally, I don’t think there should be a comparison, but people do that and I feel happy. So my aim is to perform the way he does and help my team win matches and make Pakistan proud. Look, we are different players. I have my style of playing and he has his style. So I try to perform to the best of my ability,” he added.

Babar Azam further thanked the almighty for the respect that he has earned from his fans and peers. He also claimed that the three hundreds that he scored against the West Indies back in 2017 proved to be the turning point in his career.  He revealed that despite him being one of the best batters of the modern era, his mindset hasn’t changed and he still considers every match as his last.

”Thanks to Allah for the respect I have earned in cricket. It’s a matter of great pride that my name is now being taken alongside such big players. As I have said, scoring those three centuries (against the West Indies) was the turning point. My confidence level was very high after that. But my mindset has remained the same. I play every match as if it’s my last match,’’ he said.

Babar added that he has learned a lot by speaking with several former and current greats and he continued to learn in his drive to get better in every aspect of his game every single day.

“I have learned a lot by talking to the great players. No one can be perfect, and you want to learn every day. Thanks to Allah and the blessings from the people that my name is being mentioned alongside such big players. I will try to maintain this. I have to remain focused and fit to maintain this level of consistency,” added Babar.
