Rahul Dravid, the former India skipper, and current head coach stated that he was never going to score openly like Virender Sehwag or Sachin Tendulkar, but he managed to find a way to deal with pressure and compete against some of the best fast bowlers of his era.

Dravid used to be synonymous with patience in Indian cricket. He was an identical copy of textbook Test match batting.

Dravid served as the team that put the brilliance of Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman together during what is undoubtedly one of India’s greatest batting periods.

Dravid has frequently discussed the amount of energy he had to expend while batting during prolonged hours in the middle during interviews both during and after his brilliant career. Even the opposing bowlers concurred that despite there not always been much activity on the scoreboard, their most hard struggle against any Indian batter came against Dravid.

‘I loved that contest between me and the bowler’: Rahul Dravid

The former India skipper and current head coach stated that he would never be able to score freely like Virender Sehwag or Sachin Tendulkar.

“Honestly, I never intended to resemble Viru (Virender Sehwag). His personality made it much simpler for him to shut off. That level was never going to be reached by me. But as time went on, I learned to spot the warning signs and knew when I was becoming overly passionate.”

“As my career proceeded, I came to the realization that I would never be able to score runs as rapidly as Sachin or Sehwag did. I would always have to stay patient. I really enjoyed our competition, which we tried to turn into a one-on-one match between me and the bowler. I discovered that helped me focus a little bit more.”

Dravid, one of only two Indians (the other being Sachin Tendulkar) to have scored over 10,000 runs in both Test and ODI cricket.
