Joburg Super Kings (JSK) skipper Faf du Plessis recalled legendary wicketkeeper batter MS Dhoni after his team’s victory against Durban Super Giants (DSG) in a nail-biting SA20 clash. Du Plessis also stated that Donovan Ferreira’s spectacular run-out of Eathan Bosch reminded him of Dhoni’s iconic fielding skills.

The Super Kings defeated the Super Giants at the Wanderers on Thursday, January 1. After defending a total of 205 runs in 20 overs, the hosts held their nerve in the one-over shootout. Ferreira played a key role with bat and ball, while Richard Gleeson delivered under pressure to secure victory in the thriller.

Donovan Ferreira's Thinking Forces Super Over At The Wanderers

Durban needed 15 runs from the last over to win, with Simon Harmer and Eathan Bosch at the crease. The pressure was huge, and every ball mattered. They fought hard and managed to score 14 runs, taking the game right down to the final delivery.

On the last ball, Mulder bowled outside off and Harmer missed his shot. Donovan Ferreira was alert behind the stumps. He had already taken his glove off, gathered the ball cleanly, and threw it straight at the striker’s end.

The throw hit the stumps perfectly. Bosch was well short of his ground, and the umpire ruled him out. The crowd at the Wanderers erupted as the match was pushed into a Super Over. It was a moment of pure skill and quick thinking from Ferreira.

I Remember a Game Long Time Ago When MS Dhoni... - Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis said that Donovan Ferreira’s match-turning run-out took him back to a famous moment from the past involving MS Dhoni. Du Plessis revealed that he asked Mulder to bowl short and wide, not expecting a run-out, but the plan worked perfectly with smart fielding.

"(On that run out from Donovan Ferreira) Yeah, I remember a game long time ago when MS Dhoni was behind the stumps for India. I think it was against Bangladesh in a World Cup and I remember, the guy bowled a cut ball across him and that memory was in the back of my head. I just told Mulder to bowl it short across the batter and I was not banking at a run out. So, we are bowling for run outs now," du Plessis stated.

The Runout Was a Good One for Us - Donovan Ferreira

Durban took strike first in the Super Over, but Richard Gleeson kept things tight and restricted them to just five runs. Joburg chased it down without fuss. Rilee Rossouw finished it quickly by finding the boundary twice early, sealing a home win for Joburg Super Kings.

Donovan Ferreira said that the match became tighter than the team would have liked, but the crucial run-out helped swing things in their favour. He stated that the side has focused on players taking on multiple responsibilities from the start of the tournament.

"The runout was a good one for us. Got a little close there, more than we liked, but luckily we pulled it off. I am glad I could contribute with some runs. Multiple roles is something we have been speaking about since game 1, and it looks like it will continue. Great to be contributing to 3 facets of the game," Ferreira stated.
