Indian batter Virat Kohli’s inconsistent form with the bat continued in the second ODI against West Indies, as he followed his knock of 8 runs in the first match, with an outing of 18 in the second ODI. India won the second match by 44 runs, to pocket the series 2-0 with one more match to go.

And now former India spinner Nikhil Chopra has advised the former India captain to skip the upcoming Sri Lanka series to take a break and regather himself. The island nation will visit India to play three T20Is and two Tests before the 2022 IPL.

Virat Kohli, who is on 99 Tests, is expected to play his milestone 100th game for India in the red-ball format in Mohali. The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru will host the second Test of the series, which will be a pink-ball affair under lights.

Ups And Downs Are Part Of A Player’s Career: Nikhil Chopra Feels A Break Would Help Virat Kohli Rejuvenate Himself

Terming his form as very crucial with respect to the World Cup, Nikhil Chopra said on the Khelneeti podcast said that Virat Kohli needs a break to rejuvenate himself as he feels that he is one inning away from getting his form back.

Kohli has not scored a century in any international format since November of 2019 and his struggle to get a big knock has hampered the Indian team a lot. Also, the fact that he was sacked as India’s ODI captain after he quit as the T20I skipper, had much to do about BCCI not wanting two white-ball skippers, and his inability to get a three-figure score.

Chopra said: “I think Kohli can consider taking a break in the Sri Lanka series. Ups and downs are part of a player’s career. Even the best have to face it. There are too many expectations from him, when he scores a 70, the talk is that he didn’t score a hundred. I think he is one good innings away from coming back into form. I hope it happens soon because you want your match-winner to be at peak for the World Cup.”

India has already won the ODI series against West Indies and many expect the team management to experiment with the playing XI and even Virat Kohli might be rested from the dead rubber game.
