From the corridor of uncertainty to the road to glory, England National Cricket Team pacer Ollie Robinson has been in peak form since the beginning of the Test series against the Pakistan National Cricket Team. He claimed back-to-back 5-fers, missing out on 10-wicket figures by only a few runs.
Robinson continues to bowl with pure effect in the ongoing match in Birmingham, replicating his Leeds and London Test performances. Highlighting the challenging phase of his career, which forced him to go back to domestic cricket, Robinson mentioned that it is his fortune that he is playing and taking wickets for the England National Cricket Team.
Pakistan lost two wickets in the first over of the second innings
Ollie Robinson struck twice at the beginning of Pakistan's second innings. In the very first over of the second innings, the fast bowler took two wickets, the wickets of Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique.
Pakistan was down by a couple of wickets before opening their account in this phase of the match. In the previous innings, Robinson claimed three wickets to restrict the touring team to only 133 runs.
Three 5-fers in Ollie Robinson's bag
By the time he was speaking with Sky Sports Cricket, he had already confirmed another 5-wicket figure in the longest format of the game. In the three-match Test series, Ollie Robinson has already secured three 5-fers; if he manages to take five more wickets in the ongoing match in Birmingham, then he will get his 10-fer. To whitewash Pakistan, England needs only 7 wickets.
Ollie Robinson missed multiple months for multiple reasons, including injury and England's rotational selection policy. He went back to domestic cricket after being dropped by the selectors. He was captain of the County side, Sussex.
Ollie Robinson explains his comeback with England cricket team
With Sussex, he regained his form and confidence, and based on his performance for Sussex, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) selectors recalled Robinson back into the Test team for the Test series against Pakistan. In the first match in Leeds, he took 8 wickets in total (5 for 51 and three for 29), and another 8 wickets in the second match, which was at Lord's.
"Yeah, I've really enjoyed it. I think it's been noted that I've said, obviously, I thought my England time was done, so being captain of Sussex was almost the next best thing for me,e and it gave me a new drive, a new motivation to love the game again, I guess," Ollie Robinson said to Sky Sports Cricket.
"And the last six months have gone from obviously being captain of Sussex to being back playing for England, and it's almost another dream come true to play for England again. It's like I'm starting all over again. So to be able to rewrite that script and get back out here, win games of cricket and take wickets, it's just unbelievable," he added on Day 3 of the England vs Pakistan 3rd Test match in Birmingham.
