The controversy around Imam-ul-Haq’s injury has taken another dramatic turn, with former Pakistan chief selector Mohammad Wasim hitting back at the ex-captain Salman Butt for his remarks.
The fresh controversy began after Wasim accused Imam of faking the injury during a discussion with cricket historian Dr. Nauman Niaz. He questioned whether Imam’s injury during the Lord’s Test against England was genuine and also brought up an older incident involving him.

Mohammad Wasim recalled the past incident from Pakistan’s 2022 Test series against England after Imam-ul-Haq didn’t turn up to bat in the first innings of the second Test at Lord’s.
Many have been accusing the Pakistan opener of faking a Grade 1 calf tear after dropping crucial catches, especially because the team was in a miserable position at Lord’s. Amid this, Imam-ul-Haq injury update: 10 days’ rest needed after calf tear.
Well, Wasim claimed that the team physiotherapist had informed him in advance that Imam could attempt to use an injury to avoid the tough situation. Interestingly, he did the same. He said that Pakistan’s physios found no injury with Imam and faked it under pressure.

The former chief selector’s comments didn’t sit well with the former Pakistan captain Salman Butt as he entered the debate and questioned Wasim’s role at that time.
Butt questioned, if Wasim already knew that Imam was allegedly pretending to be injured, why was stronger action not taken at that time? Even the former skipper suggested that Imam should consider legal action if his injury is medically proven to be genuine.
He wants the opener to send the legal notice to Wasim, Mohammad Amir, and others who have been saying that the opening batter was faking the latest injury just to avoid the tough situation at Lord’s.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Wasim has now hit back at Salman Butt and insisted that he did not simply sit back when he had concerns about Imam-ul-Haq. The former chief selector revealed that he took the action at that time by dropping Imam from the squad.
Wasim said that he even tried to have the batter’s central contract reconsidered, and he had also written to the Director of Cricket Operations regarding players who were avoiding domestic cricket or fitness tests. Butt is yet to react to Wasim’s strong reaction.
Speaking with Dr. Nauman Niaz, Wasim said, "I did take action. I dropped Imam from the team and asked for his central contract to be revoked. I also wrote to Director Cricket Operations to revoke the contract of not only Imam but also others with poor fitness who skipped fitness tests or domestic cricket."

Stuart Broad takes brutal dig at Imam-ul-Haq over Lord’s injury drama
Even the former England fast bowler Stuart Broad has raised questions over Imam-ul-Haq’s decision to practice on the sidelines while carrying a calf injury during the second Test at Lord’s. Broad accused the Pakistan opener of “putting on an act."
Broad said on Sky Sports, “That’s all for show. He has got a bit of stick from media and maybe his teammates. Whatever. You can do that inside the indoor school without anyone seeing; you don’t have to come wearing shorts and tape and hobble around like that.”
