Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has set a remarkable target for his career after impressing against top bowling attacks in IPL 2026. The 15-year-old batter said that he wants to surpass the record set by Chris Gayle and become the first player in cricket history to score a double century in T20 cricket.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is currently playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2026. The left-handed batter has scored 583 runs in 14 matches at an average of 41.64 and a strike rate of 232.27. He will next be seen in action during the IPL 2026 Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Mullanpur on May 27.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made a bold statement about his future batting goals during an appearance on The Switch. Speaking with former England captain Kevin Pietersen, the young batter said that he wants to become the first player to score a double century in T20 cricket.
“I want to score 200 in T20. Yeah, I want to break his record and score 200. If I play 20 overs in any game, I definitely will break that record.”
Chris Gayle currently holds the record for the highest individual T20 score. The former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter smashed an unbeaten 175 against Pune Warriors India during IPL 2013, and the record has remained unbeaten for more than a decade.

The teenage batter had expressed similar ambitions after a record-breaking performance in youth cricket last year. Sooryavanshi said that he wants to bat for the full innings and score as many runs as possible for the team.
“I will try to score 200 in the next match. I will try to play the full 50 overs. The more I score, more the team will benefit.”
The statement came after his explosive innings against the England Under-19 cricket team, where he smashed 143 runs. He reached his century in just 52 balls, recording the fastest hundred in Youth ODI history.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already played several explosive innings that suggest a T20 double century could be possible in the future. The young batter earlier smashed 190 runs for Bihar in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
In the Under-19 World Cup final, where he scored 175 runs against a quality bowling attack. His highest score in T20 cricket is 144.
During the ACC Men's Under-19 Asia Cup against the United Arab Emirates Under-19 cricket team last November, Sooryavanshi scored one of the fastest centuries by an Indian in the format. The innings placed him alongside aggressive batters like Rishabh Pant, Abhishek Sharma, and Urvil Patel.
The 15-year-old continues to attract huge attention for his fearless batting style. With more opportunities ahead, Sooryavanshi remains determined to achieve the historic milestone in T20 cricket
