All-rounder Liam Livingstone recently opened up about his limited role in the England setup and his struggles during the Champions Trophy 2025. Livingstone has played 100 matches across formats in international cricket but has been out of the national cricket team for nearly a year following a dip in form.
The 32-year-old is unlikely to make a comeback after being dropped from the white-ball squads. Livingstone will next return to competitive cricket in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bought the England cricketer for a whopping ₹13 crore in last year’s mini auction.
Things Didn't Go Well in India and Pakistan - Liam Livingstone
Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Liam Livingstone recalled his difficult experiences during the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. Livingstone said that he sought guidance to improve his declining form, but the management led by Brendon McCullum told him that he cared too much about his performances.
“I was asking for help, and pretty much all I got was that I care too much and I need to chill out a little bit, and everything will take care of itself," Livingstone told ESPNcricinfo.
"When things don't go right, of course, you're going to care; if I didn't care, then I probably wouldn't want to play the sport. I thought I had a really good summer, leading into the winter when we went to the West Indies. Obviously, things didn't go well in India and Pakistan, but they weren't going well for anyone,” he added.
That's Three That I Can Roll Off Straightaway - Liam Livingstone
Liam Livingstone noted that he performed well whenever he was promoted up the order. However, he said that when senior players returned to the squad, the management pushed him back to bat at No. 7.
"One of my frustrations with playing for England was whenever I went up the order, I did really well. And then the big boys would come back and I was always back down at No. 7… At the end of the day, I don't want to be someone that's a sixth bowler and batting at No. 7. I feel like it's a waste of my talent, but that's only my opinion."
While his international future remains uncertain, Livingstone will now focus on his upcoming franchise commitments. He will play for Sunrisers Hyderabad, aiming to justify his ₹13 crore deal by delivering consistent all-round performances in the Indian Premier League.
