ICC announces fixtures for Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday (21st March) announced the group stage fixtures for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024. The tournament will begin on 25th April with the summit clash set to to take place on 7th May. 

A total of 10 teams in Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uganda, United Arab Emirates (UAE), United States of America (USA), Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe will be taking part in the T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024 and the top two teams will be advancing to the main T20 World Cup 2024, which will take place in Bangladesh later in the year. 

Teams have been divided into groups of two with five sides each. Sri Lanka, Thailand, Scotland, Uganda, and the United States of America (USA) are placed in Group A whereas Ireland, Zimbabwe, Netherlands, UAE, and Vanuatu have been slotted in Group B. 

The T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024 will see a total of 20 matches taking place between the teams. The top two teams in each group will play in the semi-finals. The two finalists in the tournament will then be joining other 8 teams in the main event in Bangladesh, later this year. 

T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024 will be completed over 5 days across two venues in Abu Dhabi, Tolerance Oval and Zayed Cricket Stadium. Both the venues will see a day game and a night match during the Group stage. The summit clash will be played on 7th May at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. 

Because of their heroics in the T20 World Cup in 2023 in Australia, South Africa, England, India, New Zealand, and the West Indies qualified directly for the T20 World Cup 2024 as they finished in the top 6 positions. Being the hosts, Bangladesh also got direct qualification whereas Pakistan qualified because of their rankings. The tournament is expected to be a cracker because all the teams have played a magnificent brand of cricket. Australia are the defending champions after they defeated host South Africa in the final.
