ICC left Bangladesh with no hope

The Bangladesh-ICC controversy may not be over yet, ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, as some fresh claims have recently popped up on media platforms. Bangladeshi media have reported that the International Cricket Council has denied Bangladeshi journalists access to the tournament.

To cover the T20 World Cup 2026 live from the ground, journalists from across the world have to get permission from the Council, which is the accreditation card. But as per the Bangladeshi media, ICC has now decided to reject the accreditation applications of their journalists.

Bangladesh media made some fresh claims against the ICC

The claims have been made right after the snub of the Bangladesh cricket team from the tournament. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Government of Bangladesh went directly against the ICC with the decision not to travel to India to play the flagship tournament. BCB requested the council to shift their matches from India to Sri Lanka, citing 'security and safety concerns.'

Originally, Bangladesh was scheduled to play their group matches at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. But Bangladesh did not wish to play any games there, and they remained firm on their decision despite receiving the ICC's ultimatum.

Bangladesh is not currently in the T20 World Cup 2026

The ICC finally named Scotland as the replacement for the Bangladesh cricket team. After the entrance of the Scotland cricket team, Bangladesh is officially out of the T20 World Cup 2026. Following the incident, the Bangladeshi media have claimed that their journalists are now facing trouble regarding the accusation process.

Confirming the development, BCB media committee chairman Amzad Hossain stated that between 130 and 150 journalists from Bangladesh had applied for accreditation for the T20 World Cup 2026, but none of them received the required clearance from the council.

"As far as I know, all Bangladeshi journalists were rejected. Around 130 to 150 journalists applied this year, but none received accreditation," Amzad said.

What will Bangladesh do now?

The journalists of Bangladesh have further raised the question: even if a team is not playing, journalists from an ICC Associate Member nation can still receive accreditation. Then why the rejection? It is also said that the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA) can hold a talk with the Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) and the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Community (BSJC) to resolve the matter.

Though the International Cricket Council has not mentioned anything regarding the matter. "I received an approval email from the ICC media department on 20 January, which included a visa support letter. But today I received another email saying my application was rejected," a Bangladeshi journalist was quoted in a media report.

According to the claims, some photojournalists, who received a green signal during the initial stage, now received denials from the ICC.
