The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan as the winner of the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award for March 2023. Shakib Al Hasan faced tough competition from other nominees, New Zealand batter Kane Williamson and UAE batter Asif Khan.

Shakib Al Hasan demonstrated his all-round abilities for Bangladesh during the three-match ODI series against England at home. Shakib finished the series as the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker for his side. Shakib Al Hasan scored 75 runs off 71 balls and picked 4 wickets with the ball to help the team win a match in the series.

Shakib scored 353 runs and picked up 15 wickets in the 12 games in March 2023. Shakib led Bangladesh to a historic 3-0 whitewash in the T20I series against the current ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Champions. The Bangladesh T20I captain picked three wickets and scored an unbeaten 34 runs off 24 balls in the first match to help the team win.

Shakib Al Hasan was honoured to win the award for the second time and thanked the panel that voted for him. The veteran all-rounder picked the T20I series sweep against England as his best performance in the past month.

“I am honoured to win the award and would like to thank the expert panellists who have voted for me. This is a recognition I greatly value because there are so many special performances in a month from a number of amazing cricketers,” Shakib said.

“If I was to pick my highlight from the past month, it has to be the T20 series sweep against England and, with the team continuing to perform beautifully as a unit in all departments, it is easier for me now to concentrate on my role and contribute,” he added.

The 36-year-old continued his form in the white-ball series against Ireland at home. The left-handed batter scored 93 runs off 89 balls against Ireland in a 183-run win.

The star all-rounder scored 64 runs in the T20I series with an average of 64 at a strike rate of 148.84. The left-arm spinner picked up five wickets with an average of 8.88 in the shorter format.
