Australia’s hard-hitting batter Tim David has landed in hot water after showing frustration at the umpire during the fifth and final T20I against the West Indies on July 28 in St. Kitts. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has slapped Tim David with heavy punishment for misbehaving on the field.
The incident unfolded in the fifth over of Australia’s innings when the West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph bowled a delivery down the leg side. It looked wide to Tim David, but the umpire didn’t call it. And the Australian star couldn’t hide his anger.

David got upset and stretched out his arms to signal the match official, Leslie Reifer, to call it a wide. Not just that, he even walked toward the umpire with his arms still open. The ICC found Tim’s behavior to be against the spirit of the game and charged him under Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
The Australian star was found to have broken Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which is about “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.”
On Tuesday, August 4, the International Cricket Council confirmed that David has been fined 10% of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the fifth T20I against the West Indies. Along with the fine, the explosive batter has also received one demerit point on his disciplinary record. However, this is his first offense in the last two years.
'That's unacceptable': Tim David accepts his offense
Meanwhile, Tim David accepted his mistake and agreed to the punishment suggested by match referee Reon King from the Emirates ICC panel, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
The charge was levelled by the match officials—on-field umpires Zahid Bassarath and Leslie Reifer, third umpire Deighton Buttler, and fourth umpire Gregory Brathwaite.

Even Daren Ganga said in commentary at the time, “That's unacceptable—if the umpire decides there was contact with the thigh, he's not in a position to question that decision.”
Tim David guides Australia to a 5-0 sweep with a record-breaking T20I century
In the fifth and final T20I in St. Kitts, David scored 30 runs and played a key role in helping Australia win the match by three wickets. With this win, Australia completed a 5-0 clean sweep against the West Indies. He had also created history in the T20I series by scoring the fastest T20I century ever by an Australian, reaching 100 runs in just 37 balls.
After a brilliant IPL season where he helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) win their first IPL title, David carried his form into the West Indies series. He was one of Australia’s most dangerous batters, scoring 132 runs in three innings. He smashed 102* in the third T20I game. It was the Australian star’s first century in the T20 internationals.
