South Africa National Cricket Team announced the replacement for Anrich Nortje for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday. All-rounder Corbin Bosch has been drafted into the side, who made his debut for the Proteas in December last year.
South Africa National Cricket Team, who recently announced their squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, faced a massive blow after revealing the side. Star pacer Anrich Nortje was ruled out of the tournament with a recurring back injury. The pacer has been out of action since the T20 World Cup 2024.
Anrich Nortje's absence will be a massive blow for the South Africa in ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Anrich Nortje's absence will be a massive blow for the South Africa National Cricket Team, as they will be heading into the tournament without their key pacer. Corbin Bosch so far has played just one ODI in his career and he surely will be lacking experience at the big stage.
Corbin Bosch made his ODI debut in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Pakistan National Cricket Team and didn't have a great outing with the ball. He gave away 69 runs and picked one wicket. But the pacer looked in good touch in the SA20 2025 for MI Cape Town, who won the tournament.
The injury to Anrich Nortje isn't the first one for the South Africa National Cricket Team. The Temba Bavuma-led side already are without the services of Gerald Coetzee, who was ruled out with a groin issue, while Beuran Hendricks and Lizaad Williams are also out with injuries.
Kwena Maphaka will be joining South Africa as reserve bowler for ICC Champions Trophy 2025
With all the injuries, the South Africa National Cricket Team has also added young pacer Kwena Maphaka to the team as a travelling reserve. He, along with batter Tony de Zorzi, will travel to Pakistan on Sunday (9 February) for the tri-series against Pakistan and New Zealand.
The Proteas also made an addition to the coaching staff. Former Pakistan allrounder Yasir Arafat will be joining the team as a consultant for both the tri-nation series and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
