India and Pakistan set to lock horns in ICC Champions Trophy 2025

The Rohit Sharma-led Men In Blue and the Mohammad Rizwan-led Men In Green will lock horns with each other in the 5th match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The high-octane match between India and Pakistan will be hosted by the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, February 23.

Notably, the match will be played in Dubai because the Indian government refused to send the team to Pakistan due to security concerns.

There was a huge tussle between BCCI and PCB, and in the end, the decision was made that both India and Pakistan wouldn't visit each other's country during the ICC events in the ongoing broadcast cycle.

I have high hopes because Pakistan have recently won both away series - Mohammad Amir

Mohammad Amir, who was one of the heroes of Pakistan in the Champions Trophy 2017, said that he is backing Mohammad Rizwan & Co. to do something special, especially because of the way their recent performance and the matches being held on home soil.

"I have high hopes because Pakistan have recently won both away series. And I think this is a huge achievement for Pakistan, to win in Australia against Australia and then in South Africa against South Africa," Amir said during an interview with Times of India.

"Since the Champions Trophy is in Pakistan, it will be an advantage for Pakistan, so I think Pakistan can do really well," he added.

Mohammad Amir added that the Pakistanis are absolutely delighted to see an ICC event being held in the country after a long time. He said:

"This is a huge thing for the entire country of Pakistan. After such a long time, such a big event is happening, and almost all the big teams that play cricket are coming to Pakistan. This is going to be a massive festival in Pakistan," he said.

I really wanted the Indian team to come to Pakistan - Mohammad Amir

Mohammad Amir further said that he was looking forward to seeing India visit Pakistan for the competition, but was disappointed to see the way things panned out.

He was, however, hopeful that the relationship between the two nations would get better in the future and that the teams would be visiting each other's country for cricket matches.

"I really wanted the Indian team to come to Pakistan. As a player, I want Pakistan to go to India and India to come to Pakistan. There are no boundaries in cricket; those who set boundaries, I've always been against that."

"I was hopeful that India would come, and Indian team Pakistan aati toh unko maza ata (India would enjoy it too). The players would have enjoyed it a lot, but at the end of the day, players don't have control over these things," he added

"But now, you see, even Pakistanis are not going to India; this has been decided, which, in my opinion, is not a good thing. I hope in the future, there will be a resolution to end these issues," he concluded.
