ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Mohammad Rizwan publicly contradicted by Mohsin Naqvi; Pakistan squad review underway

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has made a massive statement related to the team's squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He said that selectors are reviewing the side and will be making changes if they are needed.

Pakistan National Cricket Team recently announced the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The squad will be led by Mohammad Rizwan, but the Men in Green faced massive criticism for a few of the selections that they have made.

Pakistan were criticized a lot for the selections of batter Khushdil Shah and allrounder Faheem Ashraf. Many fans and pundits were of the opinion that the duo hasn't done enough to be picked in the team for the tournament and there have been calls to exclude them from the squad.

Faheem Ashraf and Khushdil Shah haven't been part of the team for a while. The left-hander, who has played 34 ODIs, has a batting average of 10 and bowling average of 47 and last played for the team in September 2023. On the other hand, Shah hasn't hit a half-century in 10 games he has played and has been out of the team since August 2022.

Amid all the criticism, captain Mohammad Rizwan defended the squad and said that they won't be making any changes. But Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi said that they would be reviewing the squad and added that Khushdil Shah and Faheem Ashraf have been picked with the right intentions. Speaking to PTI, he said:

“The selectors have the right to review any squad they announce. Khushdil Shah and Faheem Ashraf have been included in the squad with the right intentions."

Mohsin Naqvi added that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reviewing the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He added that if they need to make any change they will be making it as they have time till 12th February.

“Yes, they are now reviewing the squad because they have time until February 12 to make changes if they want."

Ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Pakistan National Cricket Team will be playing the tri-series against the South Africa National Cricket Team and the New Zealand National Cricket Team. It will be a great opportunity for them to make their combination right ahead of the tournament.

Khushdil Shah has been included in the team for the ongoing first ODI against New Zealand. It will be a great opportunity for him to justify his selection and help his team win. On the other hand, Faheem would be keen to get a game and prove his prowess.
