India allrounder Ravindra Jadeja didn't bowl in Saurashtra's final league match of the Ranji Trophy against Assam played at the Niranjan Shah Stadium, Rajkot. Adding to this, Jadeja batted at No. 9 even below the fellow left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja.

Jadeja's limited bowling and batting way lower than his position had raised concerns over fitness and availability since the upcoming Champions Trophy is just around the corner. It is to be noted that Jadeja is a part of India's squad for the tournament

However, a member of the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) has finally spoken up on this topic and revealed the reason behind Ravindra Jadeja's limited participation in the match with bat and ball.

Why didn't Ravindra Jadeja bowl in Saurashtra's match against Assam?

Ravindra Jadeja is fully fit and a precautionary measure was being taken to rest him before the upcoming Champions Trophy. It is the only reason why he didn't bowl and bat lower down the order against Assam.

"Precautionary rest due to the Champions Trophy," an SCA team member was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

Ravindra Jadeja was in fine form as he produced a Player of the Match-winning performance in the last match against Delhi. The allrounder picked up 12 wickets in the match and also scored 38 runs in the only innings he batted.

Saurashtra thrash Assam by an innings and 144 runs

While Ravindra Jadeja didn't bowl, Saurashtra hardly broke a sweat as they defeated Assam by a huge margin of an innings and 144 runs. Jadeja wasn't really required to bowl in the match as Saurashtra were clinical enough to book a place in the quarter-finals.

Saurashtra batted first and scored 474 in the first innings on the back of a brilliant hundred from Harvik Desai and fifties. Chirag Jani, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Sammar Gajjar scored quickly fifties. Pujara fell just one run short of a hundred.

In reply, Assam were bundled out for 164 in the first innings. Skipper Riyan Parag smashed 51 and top-scored for his team. Dharmendrasinh Jadeja picked up four wickets in the innings.

Saurashtra enforced the follow-on and bundled out Assam for just 166 in the second innings. Wicketkeeper Sumit Ghadigaonkar top-scored with 40 while skipper Riyan Parag was dismissed for a duck by Jaydev Unadkat. Dharmendrasinh Jadeja shone in this innings as well and finished with 5-50.

Ravindra Jadeja in India's Champions Trophy squad

Jadeja is among the four spinners in India's squad for the Champions Trophy. The other three spinners in the squad are Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar.

Jadeja is also one of the four all-rounders in the squad along with Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Hardik Pandya. Jadeja has loads of experience of playing in ICC events and can be India's trump card.
