As per the reports in the Times of India, it is learned that there will be a new vice-captain for the India National Cricket Team in the tournament.

After the T20 World Cup 2024, the India National Cricket Team included young Shubman Gill in the leadership role, and he was named as a vice-captain in two white-ball formats. The step was taken, keeping the future in mind as BCCI wanted the youngsters to be nurtured under senior players.

The reports claimed that premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah will be the deputy to Rohit Sharma in the eight-nation tournament, which will be played next month.

Jasprit Bumrah has been part of the Indian leadership group for a while now. He was vice-captain of the team in the ODI series against South Africa early in 2022 and then made his captaincy debut against Ireland in 2023, a series which marked his return to international cricket after a while.

Jasprit Bumrah taking over the vice-captaincy from Shubman Gill will be a massive step for the team. This gives an indication that the premier fast bowler will be in line to captain the team once Rohit Sharma decides to move away or when he gives away the leadership.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to announce the squad for the England series and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 this week. It is likely that Jasprit Bumrah will be rested for three games but will be there for the tournament in February-March.
