India's veteran cricketer Virat Kohli is all set to surpass the two cricketing greats Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara to achieve a massive milestone that will put his name in the history books.

Tendulkar and Sangakkara are the only two cricketers to have scored 14000 or more runs in ODI cricket. With Virat Kohli having scored 13963 runs so far, he needs just 37 runs to become the third batter in history to score 14000 runs in ODIs

Kohli can achieve this feat in the first game of the upcoming Champions Trophy against Bangladesh on February 20. It will be a monumental achievement for the 36-year-old in a glittering ODI career.

Virat Kohli set to surpass Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara

Virat Kohli has scored 13963 runs in 285 ODI innings so far. If he scores 37 runs within his next 15 innings, he will become the first player in history to score 14000 runs in less than 300 innings in ODIs.

Kohli also has a chance to become the fastest player in history to reach the milestone of 14000 ODI runs. Sachin Tendulkar achieved this feat in 350 innings while Kumar Sangakkara took 378 innings to achieve this landmark.

Kohli has played just 285 innings in ODIs and has a great chance to surpass these greats. It is likely that he will achieve this milestone during the upcoming Champions Trophy if not the first game against Bangladesh.

Chance to surpass Shikhar Dhawan

Virat Kohli has scored 529 runs in 13 matches in the Champions Trophy at a staggering average of 88.16 and a strike rate of 92.32. He is likely to surpass many greats like Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, Sanath Jayasuriya, and many more in the upcoming edition.

Kohli also has a chance to surpass Shikhar Dhawan to become India's highest run-scorer in Champions Trophy history. Dhawan has scored 701 runs in 10 matches so far. Kohli needs 173 more runs to go past Dhawan in this list.

Shikhar Dhawan is currently third in terms of the highest run-scorers in the Champions Trophy. The list is topped by West Indies great Chris Gayle who has scored 791 runs in 17 matches at an average of 52.73 with 3 hundreds and 1 fifty.

Kohli has a chance to surpass Gayle if he scores 263 runs in this tournament. Currently, he is 11th on the list of all-time highest run-scorers and the second-highest run-getter among Indians in the Champions Trophy.

Virat Kohli is an excellent ODI player

Virat Kohli endured a tough time in India's home Test season against Bangladesh and New Zealand. His poor form continued in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia as well. However, the ODI format is undoubtedly his favorite as his record suggests.

Kohli has a staggering record in every format but he is just on another level when it comes to ODIs where he averages almost 58. He recently played in the ODI series against England where he announced his return to form with a fine fifty in the final match at Ahmedabad.

Kohli will be key to India's chances in the tournament as he is the most experienced player of the team. India will begin their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai before facing the arch-rivals Pakistan on February 23.
