ICC cracks down on Pakistan star with big punishment amid T20 World Cup 2026

New troubles are knocking at the door for Pakistan, as amid the T20 World Cup qualification scenario not going their way, one of the key batters has been subjected to punishment for breaching the ICC code of conduct.
The Pakistan Cricket Board is anyway going through a rough patch, after their Men's team made an awful start to their Super-8 campaign in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. They qualified for the Super-8 stage after having defeated the Netherlands, USA and Namibia, but have not won against any of the major forces.
Pakistan's group-stage defeat came against rivals India. They had lost the game by a humiliating margin of 61 runs, and then, coming into the Super-8, they lost the match to England in their second game. The first game against New Zealand was abandoned without a single ball being bowled.
Pakistan batter breaches the ICC Code of Conduct
Pakistan batter Sidra Amin from the Women's team has added to the woes for the Pakistan people and the PCB with an ICC code of conduct breach during the first ODI of the Pakistan tour to South Africa.
Sidra Amin has been officially reprimanded by the ICC for having breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”
The incident that led to them being reprimanded took place during the 24th over of the match, when she slammed her bat on the pitch after being dismissed by the Proteas. This is the repetition of an incident that took place during a game against India in last year's ICC Women's World Cup.
Batter accepts Level 1 breach of the ICC code
Sidra accepted the charges brought against her by Shandrè Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, eliminating the need for a formal hearing. However, this marked her second offence within the 24-month period, and hence, as per regulations, she has been issued one demerit point.
On-field umpires Kerrin Klaaste and Nimali Perera, third umpire Lauren Agenbag, and fourth umpire Stacy Lackay levelled the charge.
As per the rules and regulations of the ICC, any player breaching Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct would be reprimanded, and a penalty of 50% of their match fees shall be charged with one or two demerit points.
Pakistan started off their World Cup preparations with a loss
Pakistan women are off to South Africa to prepare for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup in 2026 in England. However, they have not made a promising start against the runners-up or the previous edition of the World Cups. South Africa were the finalists in the last edition of both the T20 and the ODI World Cup.
South Africa put on a promising total of 260 with a well-made 93 from Sune Luss, a quickfire half-century from Sinalo Jafta and some initial hard work from skipper Laura Wolvaardt.
Pakistan batters did not get their innings going very well, with their best innings coming from reprimanded batter Sidra Amin and Ayesha Zafar. It was due to their century partnership that Pakistan could take their score to 223 in the reduced chase of 41 overs.
