The plans for the next ICC Cricket World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027, have been announced.

Ever since the last World Cup concluded in 2023, which ended disappointingly for the Indian Cricket Fans, there has been immense buzz around the next edition of the CWC to be played on the African continent. After several years, a CWC will be held in South Africa as ICC Cricket returns to the continent after a gap of nearly two decades.

South Africa last hosted the ICC T20 World Cup back in 2007, when it was played for the first time, but has yet to win the title, as they missed it by a whisker in last year's final against India. In the longer white-ball format, they last hosted the Champions Trophy in 2009 after the CWC back in 2003.

2027 World Cup plans revealed by ICC; South Africa to co-host alongside Zimbabwe and Namibia

As per ICC's latest plans, the three countries of the African region, Zimbabwe, Namibia, and South Africa, are supposed to co-host the Men's 50-over mega event in October and November 2027.

South Africa might not have hosted too many international tournaments, but they have hosted one CWC (2003), one T20 CWC (2007), and one ICC Champions Trophy (2009). The nation has also hosted two Women's WCs, which include the 2005 50-over Women's championship and the T20 WC in 2023.

Cricket South Africa and ICC finalise venues for 2027 CWC

Cricket South Africa on Thursday announced a local organizing committee for the 2027 ODI World Cup and revealed that 44 matches will be played at eight venues around the nation. They revealed 44 matches will be played in South Africa, while the remaining 10 matches will be co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Eight venues – Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, East London, and Paarl – in South Africa will host 44 out of 54 matches of the 2027 CWC. The WC committee built locally will be headed by former South African minister Trevor Manuel.

CSA chairperson Pearl Maphoshe said, “CSA’s vision is to stage a global, inspiring event which will reflect the face of South Africa—diverse, inclusive, and united."

India to decide Rohit Sharma's CWC fate post Asia Cup 2025

Indian veteran Rohit Sharma, the 38-year-old legendary Indian white-ball opener, has announced his retirement from the other two formats of the game but has shown interest in starring for India in the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.

This would mark Rohit's 4th ODI CWC appearance, but the major hindrance is not form, since the batter has gotten runs; however, his fitness and age are major concerns. Sharma had led India to triumphs in the ICC T20 WC and the ICC Champions Trophy, and a One-day CWC win can lift him to the level of MS Dhoni in international cricket as the second captain with all three limited-overs ICC titles.

Rohit's fate in the format is to be decided after discussions between the player and the BCCI post the conclusion of the Asia Cup.
