The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the inaugural ICC Women’s Cricket Week, scheduled from October 16 to 22. Notably, the first-ever event will run alongside the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 in India, as part of the ICC’s continued commitment to promoting the women’s game.
Earlier this year, the ICC Women’s Cricket Committee and Chief Executives’ Committee endorsed the initiative to boost women’s cricket by increasing its visibility and encouraging greater participation. The ICC aims to promote women’s cricket and enhance opportunities for women across world cricket.
ICC Launches Inaugural Women’s Cricket Week to Promote the Game
The first-ever ICC Women’s Cricket Week is scheduled to take place from October 16-22. Notably, the Women’s Cricket World Cup is currently taking place in India and Sri Lanka.
Australia Women, England Women, and India Women are at the top of the points table, winning their first two matches in the World Cup.
The initiative encourages national governing bodies to engage in locally meaningful activities, providing a platform for visibility, recognition, and equal opportunities for female cricketers.
Rising participation, viewership, and performances indicate that women’s cricket is increasingly being taken seriously, and as more countries join the movement, its global voice will continue to strengthen.
A Turning Point for Women’s Cricket - Jay Shah
ICC Chairman Jay Shah lauded the launch of ICC Women’s Cricket Week and described it as a landmark for women’s cricket. Shah stated that the week celebrates players and inspires young girls, offering all ICC Members a chance to engage with and promote women’s cricket.
"This year has already marked a turning point for women’s cricket, with record-breaking crowds, landmark performances, and an unmistakable sense of momentum building around the game," Shah said.
“The launch of the ICC Women’s Cricket Week is another proud milestone, a celebration not just of the players on the world stage, but of every girl picking up a bat or ball, dreaming of what’s possible. It gives our Members, from Full to Associate, a meaningful opportunity to participate in the global narrative and shape the future of the women’s game in their own communities,” he added.
Full Members Join Women’s Cricket Week with Exciting Initiatives
Several Full Member nations have already stepped forward with unique initiatives to promote women’s cricket. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has been actively driving recreational cricket programs to build excitement for the tournament.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) will host a celebration at Proteas wicket-keeper Karabo Meso’s former school, featuring interactive sessions, panel discussions, and exhibition matches involving former Proteas players. Meanwhile, New Zealand Cricket has engaged young girls through a “Mini World Cup.”
Beyond the Full Members, over 45 ICC Associate Members have also pledged involvement in the campaign, focusing on fostering engagement and development at the grassroots level
