On Wednesday (August 09) night, a fire broke out at Eden Gardens’ dressing room during the renovation work ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The incident happened just a few days after ICC officials visited the iconic stadium in Kolkata for a survey.

According to news reports from various media outlets, the workers informed the fire department after noticing it first and two fire engines were rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has issued a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire. As per the reports, the fire broke out on the dressing room’s false ceiling.

On Sunday (August 06), ICC officials and 11 members from BCCI visited Kolkata and inspected Eden Gardens. Following this, CAB President said that the ICC officials were happy and satisfied with the work and will conduct another survey on September 01.

This fire incident will definitely bring the infrastructure of Eden Gardens under the scanner and it is pretty evident that this will be a major concern for the ICC officials.

“They don’t have much observation. They are satisfied with the work. After IPL they are very happy with the clubhouse, conference room, and all. They have little issue with the washroom. But they are happy with the work that is going on. We are discussing on improving the commentary boxes. We are in the discussion stage. They will mail us the report and will again have an inspection on 1st of September,” Snehasis Ganguly said on Sunday in a statement.

CAB cannot afford to leave any loose ends that can affect the fixtures of ICC ODI World Cup 2023 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata

Rohit Sharma led India’s fixture at Eden Gardens in Kolkata
