Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a show of dissent towards a teammate during the Super 8 clash against Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The incident took place in the final over of Afghanistan's innings when Rashid Khan and Karim Janat were batting in the middle. On the third ball of the over, Rashid Khan miscued a shot towards the cover and wanted a double in order to get the strike.

After completing the first run quickly, he ran for the second and was already halfway down but was sent back by Janat. It did not go down well with the Afghan superstar and he lost his cool. A frustrated Rashid Khan expressed his anger by hurling his bat on the floor before returning back to the crease.

Janat then picked up the bat and handed it to his captain who still looked furious over being sent back. And the outburst on the field has earned him a sanction from the governing body of the game. He has received an official reprimand and one demerit point for his conduct. It is his first offense within a 24-month period.

Rashid Khan was found in violation of Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. He breached Article 2.9, which deals with 'throwing a ball or any other cricket equipment at or near a player in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during an international match'.
