Indian Right-arm medium-pacer Shardul Thakur has expressed his happiness on the addition of legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni in India’s T20 World Cup 2021 line-up as a mentor.
Notably, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2021. Also during the announcement, they revealed that MS Dhoni will also be involved in the World Cup as a mentor.
Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah stated :
“As far as Dhoni is concerned, I spoke to him when I was in Dubai. He was okay with the decision, and he agreed to be a mentor for team India, for the T20 World Cup only.
“I spoke to the captain (Virat Kohli) and vice-captain (Rohit Sharma) as well as Ravi Shastri (the head coach), and that’s why we concluded.”

During a chat with The Indian Express Shardul Thakur was questioned about Dhoni’s presence as a mentor and his impact.
Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur stated that he is delighted to see Dhoni being a mentor. Also, Thakur highlighted that he has played with Dhoni for 3 years and he knows Dhoni’s experience will come in handy in the world cup. Thakur asserted:
“I’m very happy with the decision. I’ve played along with him for three years now, and I know that his experience comes in handy. He will bring more ideas to the team.”
Shardul Thakur further added that the Indian captain and Head Coach will get some help from MSD. Thakur elaborated:
” I think Virat and Ravi Bhai will also get some help from him. Mahi Bhai will bring one more angle, especially when we’re in tricky situations.”
Notably, Shardul Thakur has been named to India’s Squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. However, he has not been added to the main 15-member. As Thakur has been placed in Stand-by players alongside Deepak Chahar and Shreyas Iyer.
