West Indies limited-overs skipper Kieron Pollard mentioned that his team will continue to take the knee in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

West Indies players have been vehemently following the gesture of kneeling down before the game and raising their fists to showcase their support for the Black Live Matter (BLM) movement.

Pollard said that is something very close to their hearts and they believe in the concept of the movement so they will continue the gesture further.

“From my knowledge at this present time, I think it’s something that we’re gonna continue because it’s something that we strongly believe in, as a team,” Pollard said in a virtual press conference.

“Hopefully, we can just continue to show our support for something that I think is close to our hearts,” he added.

West Indies players along with England players were the first ones to start this gesture in cricket since the game resumed in July 2020 in the COVID-19 era. When Pollard was asked about whether their England counterparts would do the same, the West Indies skipper said it is up to them and he won’t force them for it.

“Everyone has their own opinions on racism and Black Lives Matter and all these things So, I can’t tell them what to do or expect anything because sometimes when you expect things from people you tend to get disappointed,” Pollard said.

“Sometimes you just have to look at the man in the mirror and if we think it is something that is very very important to us, we will do it. And if the opposition thinks that as well – it’s up to them if they don’t,” he added.

We’ll discuss it: Chris Jordan on England players taking knee in T20 World Cup

England pace bowler Chris Jordan said that are considering taking the knee in the T20 World Cup opening match against West Indies.

“We’ll discuss it and if people feel strongly about it, we’ll definitely do it. On the flip side, if we don’t, then we won’t,” Jordan was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

West Indies are the defending champions of the 2016 T20 World Cup and will face England on October 23 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
