India and Pakistan will add another chapter to their fiery rivalry next year this time at the iconic New York City during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 which is set to start from June onwards. The event will be co-hosted by the USA and West Indies and it will be the first time that an ICC event will take place in American soil.
The last time these 2 arch rivals met was back during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 league stage match on October 14th at the Narendra Modi Stadium. India under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma defeated Babar Azam’s side by 7 wickets in an one-sided affair which saw Pakistan post only 191 in the 1st innings.
India chased down the total quite comfortably without any shocks by the 31st over and kept their 100% win record alive against Pakistan in 50-over World Cups. And the last time both teams met each other in a T20 match was during the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia where Virat Kohli single-handedly snatched victory from Pakistan’s hands to script a memorable comeback at the MCG.
It goes without saying that whenever India and Pakistan square off in a cricket match, viewership and anticipation go over the roof. Over the years, this fixture has given countless moments and the upcoming installment next June will be nothing short of a true spectacle. Although the 2 teams only meet in ACC or ICC events the last time they played a Bilateral series was back in 2013 when Pakistan toured India.
A 34,000 Seater and 930 Acres Stadium, 30 Miles off New York To Host India Vs Pakistan
According to reports from internal sources, a brand new 34,000-seater stadium spread across 930 acres of land is being built by the orders of ICC to host the high-voltage contest. The Stadium will be 30 miles away from New York City at Eisenhower Park after the proposal to build a stadium in the Bronx Area of New York was canceled due to protests from local residents.
Last year, the USA organized its first-ever domestic cricketing league – Major League Cricket (MLC) which became a major success in the US market. A year on since then, the United States are now preparing to host a first-ever 20-team T20 World Cup in which England will arrive as the reigning champions.
Meanwhile, it will be the 3rd meeting between India and Pakistan in the space of 10 months with the first one taking place earlier in September which was a 50-over Asia Cup group stage match. Half-centuries from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were followed by 2 terrific Full-centuries from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, which helped India post 357 as the target.
In response, Pakistan were folded for just 128 runs thanks to Kuldeep Yadav’s 5-wicket haul at the R Premadasa Stadium. The T20 World Cup 2024 clash between India and Pakistan is slated to take place on either June 8 or 9. Both of the teams have enough time to prepare for the much-awaited clash but one thing is sure, there will be no shortage of carnival or carnage in New York City.
