Former England Batter and Captain Nasser Hussain in a recent interview, revealed his favorites to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in USA and West Indies, which is slated to start from June. He has tipped South Africa as the eventual winner but believes that they will have to beat reigning champions England in the final to win their first-ever major ICC trophy.

The T20 World Cup later this year for a lot of reasons. Firstly, it will no longer be a 10 or 12-team affair as slots have increased to 20 teams, which means there is going to be more excitement as well as competition. Secondly, it will be for the first time that the United States of America will be hosting an ICC event even if they are the co-hosts with West Indies who are hosting the T20 WC for the first time since 2010.

Nasser Hussain Gambles Over South Africa, West Indies and Pakistan

It was an England team under the captaincy of Paul Collingwood that came out on top when West Indies hosted the T20 WC last time around and Nasser Hussain expects something similar to happen even if the Three Lions aren’t playing at their best. The 55-year-old also claimed that South Africa have a very real chance of winning the title and so does last edition’s runners-up Pakistan.

“I have not thought too much about this actually but I am going to go with South Africa. England are the defending champions but are not playing particularly well at the moment. It is in the Caribbean and the West Indies are going ok, then you have Pakistan, so can i choose all of these sides?” – said Hussain.

After all the gamble, Nasser Hussain claimed that South Africa and England are going to feature in the finals and believes that the former team will be boosted before the T20 WC begins. The likes of Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala are most probably going to come back before the tournament and that could further help the Proteas to go all the way and win.

Hussain also claimed that South Africa’s domestic league – the SA T20 has helped the national team in finding new talents and has also improved their overall performance on the field. During the CWC, South Africa were among the strongest teams on the field and were said to be favorites before losing to eventual winners Australia in the semi-final at Eden Gardens.

He also tipped that Anrich Nortje could be a game-changer for the Rainbow Nation and can further boost the team which already has a dynamic batting line-up.

They (South Africa) played some brilliant cricket in that World Cup. I think their SA20 competition has really elevated some of their players and they have now got that depth and that class and that talent. I don’t where he is with his injury but someone like Anrich Nortje is what they were missing in those vital games. So I think if he gets fit for the T20 WC and with their dynamic batting line-up, I am going to look for South Africa.” – Nasser Hussain added.

“Surya Kumar Yadav Will Be The One To Watch Out For”, Claims Nasser Hussain

Lastly, Nasser Hussain concluded by naming India’s very own Mr. 360 Surya Kumar Yadav as the player to watch out for in the tournament. He said that Surya Kumar’s T20 batting is a joy to watch and also called him a freak for his unconventional batting.

“The bloke is a freak. The cliche of Mr. 360, but some of the shots he plays and he is a freak because in 50-overs cricket, he doesn’t quite know when to go, when not to go, what to do. But in T20 cricket, he absolutely knows what to do every single time almost and it is a fun game, T20 cricket and watching SKY.” – Nasser Hussain concluded.
