Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s future in T20Is is hanging by a thread as both of them are yet to provide clarity on their availability in the shortest format. The Rohit-Virat duo last played a T20I for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final against England. India suffered a heartbreaking loss against England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup.

Rohit Sharma led the Indian team in the T20 World Cup in 2022 and the reportedly BCCI wants him to lead in the upcoming T20 World Cup but for that, he needs to play a few T20Is for India. He alongside Virat Kohli, is out of the shortest format since 2022 and the T20 World Cup is just a few months from now. Virat Kohli was the leading run-scorer in the T20 World Cup and his presence will be valuable in the upcoming T20 World Cup as well.

Former England batter Ravi Bopara reckons Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are absolutely important for team India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. He wants the two to score big runs for the team and others to play useful cameos which will help the team in winning the title. He added that Suryakumar Yadav will be the most dangerous player for India in the upcoming World Cup.

“A lot. India will need their presence in the important tournament. They should be there and in good form. India would want them to score big runs. They scoring big runs and then others playing cameos can work well for India. You have got SKY (Suryakumar Yadav) there. He is going to be the most dangerous player in the Indian lineup. It is very important that these three fire,” he said in an interview with TOI.

Rohit Sharma Has Been A Part Of Every T20 World Cup

Rohit Sharma made his T20 international debut in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. He scored a half-century off 40 balls on his debut against the hosts South Africa. He also scored a quickfire 30 off just 16 balls in the final against Pakistan. India went on to win the inaugural T20 World Cup beating Pakistan in the final. However, the Men In Blue has not been able to repeat the triumph. They came close to the title in 2014 but were beaten by Sri Lanka in the final.

Rohit Sharma led the team to the semi-final in the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup which was played in Australia. England went on to win the title in 2022 which was their second T20 World Cup title. India needs the service of two of their most valuable and experienced players but if they don’t participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup, Hardik Pandya or Suryakumar Yadav are likely to lead the Indian side in the marquee T20 event.

India recently lost the final of the ODI World Cup against Australia where the Rohit Sharma-led Indian side went on to maintain a ten-match winning streak which eventually ended in the final by Australia. India will hope to win their first ICC title since 2013 in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
