ICC T20 World Cup 2024: You'll Need Experienced Players Like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma - Irfan Pathan
Irfan Pathan reckons India will require the experience of both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli on and off the field during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The reason for the same is the occurrence of quite a few unknown pitches during the tournament. The schedule for the T20 World Cup has been announced and India is grouped with Ireland, Pakistan, Canada, and Co-Hosts USA. India’s campaign will begin on June 5 with three of the four matches to be played in New York and the last group-stage match to be played in Florida.
The availability of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is a big question ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Both the experienced campaigners have been aloof of the shortest format since India’s World Cup 2022 semi-final exit. However, the star duo is reportedly eager to feature in the T20 megaevent in June this year. Speaking to Star Sports, Irfan Pathan said he would love to see Virat Kohli back in the shortest format as he was able to regain his touch during the 2022 T20 World Cup and IPL 2023.
Irfan Pathan also suggested that the unknown pitches in the USA and the West Indies would require the experience of these two big names to boost the squad. The duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli can do wonders for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup and with their experience and the firepower of the young players, India can actually win an ICC title after 11 years.
Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli Are Important, Says Irfan Pathan
“Personally, I would like to see Virat on the pitch because when we talk about two years back, definitely he was not in his best form. But the last IPL and T20 were two of the most amazing tournaments for him. Also, when you are playing in countries like West Indies and the USA, there are quite a few unknown pitches, and here you will need experienced players like Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both on and off the field,” said Pathan.
“The playing of both the players also depends upon team management and their fitness, but I would love seeing both of them on the field, especially when Rohit has also changed his form and has been making a lot of runs in One Day Cricket,” said Pathan.
