ICC to erase Mohsin Naqvi from world cricket after Asia Cup trophy controversy on BCCI’s demand

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) head Mohsin Naqvi is all set to face the wrath of the International Cricket Council (ICC), chaired by Jay Shah, former BCCI secretary, for running away with the Asia Cup trophy after the final on September 28.
The Indian cricket team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, finished the Asia Cup 2025 as an unbeaten side, crushing Pakistan by five wickets in the final to win their ninth title. But India’s refusal to receive the trophy and winner’s medals from Mohsin Naqvi didn’t sit well with him.
ICC set to take action against Mohsin Naqvi for Asia Cup trophy controversy
Resulting in Naqvi, who is also the Interior Minister in Pakistan, taking the trophy straight from the stadium to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) office in Dubai, and the Men in Blue have not received it despite the BCCI offering a number of options to the PCB chairman to deliver the trophy to India.
The BCCI has expressed strong objections to Naqvi’s actions and is set to raise the issue at the upcoming ICC meeting next month. It is being said that the ICC could take serious action, including censuring or even removing Naqvi from his position as director for breaching the protocol.
A source close to the development and Naqvi was quoted as saying by PTI, “It remains to be seen what will be the long-term ramifications for the PCB or Naqvi because the BCCI is clear he (Naqvi) didn't have any right to insist on handing the trophy himself to the Indian team and refusing to send it to the BCCI, which was the official host of the event.”
Mohsin Naqvi keeps the Asia Cup trophy under tight security at ACC HQ
The Asia Cup trophy has been placed under tight security at the ACC headquarters in Dubai, with strict instructions that it cannot be moved or handed over without the chairman’s approval.
The source added, “As of today, the trophy is still in ACC offices in Dubai with clear instructions from Naqvi that it should not be moved or handed over to anyone without his approval and in-person presence. Naqvi has given clear instructions that only he will hand over the trophy in person (whenever that happens) to the Indian team or BCCI.”

Mohsin Naqvi intensified the controversy with political posts against India
The controversy surrounding Naqvi has intensified after he used social media to make political statements against India, raising serious questions about his fairness as ACC Chairman and ICC Director. His actions have added tension to an already heated situation between the two nations.
Reports from an ACC meeting after the tournament reveal that Naqvi had a fiery confrontation with senior BCCI officials, including Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar.
PCB chairman visits Pakistan team ahead of South Africa Tests
Recently, the PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi visited Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore to meet the Pakistan cricket team before their two-match Test series against South Africa, starting on October 12.
He was joined by Aqib Javed, Director of the High-Performance Centre, and interacted with players and coaching staff, including captain Shan Masood, to discuss preparations and motivate the team ahead of the Test series against the Proteas side.
