South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje is unlikely to be available for selection for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be played in India. Anrich Nortje is facing uncertainty about his availability for the World Cup due to a serious back injury.
Anrich Nortje last played for South Africa in the second ODI against Australia, where he bowled just five overs and conceded 58 runs before walking off the field due to back spasms. He also scored 10 runs with the bat while batting at No. 10 during the run chase.

The pacer’s injury was initially thought to be less severe by Cricket South Africa (CSA). However, there are now indications that he may soon resume bowling under medical supervision after his injury. Notably, he was also ruled out of the 2019 World Cup due to a fractured thumb.
Speaking to Rapport Newspaper, Dr Shuaib Manjra addressed Anrich Nortje‘s condition and said, “We are concerned about it, and a specialist is looking at him now. We will give him the best possible chance to be available and ready for the World Cup.”
Anrich Nortje Named In Provisional World Cup Squad
The Proteas started the five-match series against Australia on a poor note as they suffered back-to-back losses in the first two matches of the five-match ODI series. However, the home team bounced back to win the next two ODI matches by huge margins to keep the series hopes alive.
Cricket South Africa announced a 15-member provisional squad for the World Cup. Surprisingly, the selectors named six pacers in their lineup, including Gerald Coetzee, Marco Jansen, Sisanda Magala, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, and Kagiso Rabada, for the subcontinent conditions.
