England’s white-ball coach Matthew Mott has confirmed that Jos Buttler will engage in discussions with Ben Stokes regarding the reconsideration of his retirement from ODIs. Matthew Mott emphasized that Ben Stokes can play as a pure batter for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Ben Stokes shocked the cricket community by announcing his retirement from the ODI format in July 2022. The left-handed batter decided to step away from the 50-over format at the age of 31. It’s worth noting that he was the Player of the Match in the 2019 World Cup final.

Ben Stokes Had Such A Great Presence – Matthew Mott

Matthew Mott expressed optimism regarding Ben Stokes‘ availability for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in India later this year.

“Jos will probably lead the way on that communication, but Ben’s pretty straight with all of us. We will see if he’s keen. There has not been a clear direction on what he’s going to do yet, but we are still hopeful. I’ve always said his bowling would be a bonus, but just look at what he brings with the bat, even in the field,” Mott told Mail Sport.

“Watching him throughout the whole Ashes series, he had such a great presence. He’s done it for years when it comes to performing in one-day cricket and so he’s an invaluable commodity,” he added.

Stokes left a strong impression with his batting in the recently concluded Ashes series at home. The southpaw scored 405 runs in nine innings with an average of 45. He hit one century and two fifties.

Ben Stokes’ Impressive Record In ODI Cricket

Ben Stokes last played for England in an ODI match against South Africa in July 2022. Later, he played a match-winning knock in the final of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. He helped the Pakistan team win their second title in the shortest format of the game.

The renowned all-rounder represented the nation in 105 matches in the 50-over format. He amassed 2924 runs with an average of 39.89 and a strike rate of 95.09. With the ball, he took 74 wickets in 88 innings, with an average of 42.39 and an economy rate of 6.05.
