ICC World Cup 2023: Gautam Gambhir Reveals His India World Cup Squad, Leaves Out Shreyas Iyer

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir recently unveiled his 15-member India squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, which is set to be played at home. Gautam Gambhir left out middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer from his squad for the marquee tournament.
The Rohit Sharma-led team are currently playing in the Asia Cup 2023 in preparation for the World Cup, which will be played from October 5 to November 19. Shreyas Iyer returned to the Indian Cricket Team during the Asia Cup match against Pakistan after an injury layoff.
Gautam Gambhir Included Washington Sundar In His Squad
Gautam Gambhir named Suryakumar Yadav in his squad ahead of Shreyas Iyer, who was a regular member of the squad before his injury. Suryakumar has failed to make an impact with the bat in the 50-over format, having scored only one half-century in his last 20 innings.
The former Indian opener picked Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Axar Patel in the squad. Sundar’s selection came as a surprise as he is not a part of India’s squad for the ongoing Asia Cup. He was included in the squad for the Asian Games 2023.

The former KKR skipper picked Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami as specialist bowlers. Gambhir left out Shardul Thakur and replaced him with Prasidh Krishna, who was also part of the Asia Cup squad.
The Rohit Sharma-led team will start their World Cup campaign by taking on Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8. The tournament will be played in a round-robin format, where each team will compete against the other nine teams.
