Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell opened up on his international career and said that he wants to keep playing for the Aussies even after the upcoming ODI World Cup and will keep playing as long as he is helpful to the squad.
As quoted by The West Australian, Glenn Maxwell said that he will keep playing for Australia till the time some other deserving player arrives until he will continue his stint.
Maxwell added that he feels fit and young. Glenn Maxwell reckoned that he still tries to hit when he is on the crease.
“I’ll keep playing as long as people will have me until they think that someone is more deserving of my spot, which is fine. Until then, I’ll keep plugging along. I still feel fit, I still feel young, especially with the role I play. I still try to hit it to hotspots on the field, I’m not hiding at all,” Glenn Maxwell said on Monday during an event.
Sometimes you just get used to failure: Glenn Maxwell
The 34-year-old said that he is made of scars that are built with mistakes while playing in that role and it is hard for the young players to come in the squad and take that place. Maxwell added that once you get old get used to failures and then only one comes back.
“I’ve got a lot of scar tissue that’s been built up from the mistakes I’ve made in that role. It’s a hard thing for a young player to come in and do that role. When you have those young guys that come in, they might have success with their first game but a couple of games of failure, it’s really hard to come back from. Sometimes you just get used to failure as an older person and you can sort of have the resilience to come back from it,” Glenn Maxwell added.
Glenn Maxwell made his ODI debut in against Afghanistan and played 128 matches in which he scored 3490 runs and picked 60 wickets. Maxwell’s last match was against India in 2023.
Australia will start their ODI World Cup journey against India on October 8th at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
