Star English batsman, Harry Brook opened up on his exclusion from England’s squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. Brook said that he is not thinking about it anymore.
Harry Brook made his ODI debut in January 2023 against South Africa, following which he has played three games and scored 86 runs, and has one fifty by his name. The 24-year-old played his first T20I match in January 2022 against West Indies and appeared in 20 games and scored 372 runs with a strike rate of 137.78.
The English youngster is considered one of the most promising talents for the Three Lions however, many cricket pundits think that Ben Stokes’ return from retirement helped him take Harry Brook’s spot in the squad since the England Test skipper is more experienced and known for his attacking cricket.
While speaking after the match between London Spirit and Northern Superchargers in the Hundred 2023, Harry Brook accepted that it is disappointing for him but he can’t do anything rather than accept things.
The 24-year-old accepted that he can’t complain about anything since Ben Stokes is one of the best players in the sport. Brook added that he did not have much conversation with Matthew Mott, England’s ODI coach, and Jos Buttler.
“Obviously it’s disappointing but I can’t do anything about it now. You’ve just got to move on. I’m trying not to think about it anymore. I’ve not had much conversation with Matthew [Mott] or Jos [Buttler]. They said with Stokesy coming back I was probably going to miss out this time. He is one of the best players to ever play cricket, so I can’t really complain, can I?” Harry Brook said.
I feel like I’m playing well at the minute: Harry Brook
Harry Brook thinks that he could add more strength to the team since he is playing well at the moment. Brook accepted that he did not get much opportunity to play 50-over cricket in the last few months.
“I feel like I’m playing well at the minute and feel I could potentially add value to the team. [But] there’s always something more you could do. I haven’t had much opportunity to play one-day cricket, whether that be for Yorkshire or England, and although I’ve played a lot of T20 cricket, I don’t know if I’ve done as well as I have in the past in the last six months, so that might have had an effect.” Harry Brook added.
Jos Buttler-led England will square off against New Zealand in the inaugural match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5th.
