Bangladesh could suffer a huge blow ahead of the World Cup as their fast bowler Ebadot Hossain is in a race against time to be fit for the all-important competition. The World Cup is scheduled to start from October 5 in India.

Ebadot Hossain was recently named in Bangladesh’s squad for the Asia Cup but was ruled out of the competition due to a knee injury. The pacer had sustained the injury during the ODI series against Afghanistan last month. He was ruled out of the Asia Cup after failing to recover in time after rehabilitation and has been replaced by uncapped 20-year-old fast bowler Tanzim Hasan.

“Ebadot had undergone six weeks of rehab following the injury. We have had multiple MRIs done during this time and the reports suggest that his ACL is still a concern and requires further management. Therefore, he misses out on the Asia Cup.

Considering the importance of the Bangladesh team’s next major event, which is the ICC World Cup in October, the BCB is committed to exploring every safe medical option available for getting Ebadot back to full fitness and playing as early as possible, including consultation and treatment overseas,” Bangladesh Cricket Board’s chief sports physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury said.

Ebadot Hossain doubtful for World Cup too:

Ebadot Hossain could miss the upcoming World Cup too, according to Cricbuzz. The news outlet has reported that BCB is contemplating sending the bowler abroad for a second opinion on his knee injury. Ebadot Hossain could fly to England next month for consultation and is likely to be accompanied by Kiron Thoms, the newly appointed Australian physio and rehabilitation manager.

“If he requires surgery, he will almost certainly miss the World Cup,” a BCB official said.

In case Ebadot Hossain fails to recover in time for the World Cup which is looking very unlikely at the moment, Bangladesh will have their task cut out. The pacer has been in fine form in recent times. Since making his ODI debut in August last year, he has picked up wickets in all but one of the 12 ODIs he has played so far. In 12 games, he has picked up 22 wickets.

“The cricket board is treating this matter with the utmost seriousness,” the official said.

“While we’ve provided him with a workload, Ebadot has struggled to manage it effectively. His inability to cope with the intensity resulted in his exclusion from the Asia Cup squad.

“Though there’s a chance he could manage it with two to three more months, time is a luxury we lack. The World Cup squad announcement is imminent, and the coach needs clarity on his condition to shape his strategies accordingly,” added the official.
