Veteran Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan picked his No.4 in the Indian team for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. He backed Suryakumar Yadav to take the role as he’s experienced and has great exposure to international cricket.

The No. 4 spot in the Indian team has been a real concern going into the ICC World Cup 2023. The injuries to Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have worsened the case more and there’s no confirmation about if they will be part of the team for the marquee event or not.

Their absence made India test quite a few players in the recently concluded ODI series against West Indies but that didn’t work out as no one really looked home and failed to make contributions. They have given opportunities to Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, and Axar Patel in the middle but it didn’t look like anyone would make it into the main XI.

With no confirmation about Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul’s comeback, there have been a lot of speculations about who will bat at No.4. Shikhar Dhawan, who has been an incredible servant of Indian cricketer, wants Suryakumar Yadav to take the role.

Shikhar Dhawan also mentioned that he wants to see how Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma will go about in this world cup. Speaking to PTI, he said:

“I would go with Surya at four as he is an experienced player and has been playing international cricket for a while. Also, really looking forward to see how Shubman Gill does in the World Cup. Another batter to watch out for will be Rohit Sharma as he did exceptionally well in the last World Cup.”
