Kumar Sangakkara has revealed his two favourite teams that can win the trophy during the ICC World Cup 2023. Kumar Sangakkara feels that England and India are favourites to win the tournament.

ICC World Cup 2023 is set to commence on October 5. India is the host of the tournament. England is the defending champions who won the trophy in the last edition in 2019. India is the host of the tournament.

England And India Are Going To Be Top Favourites: Kumar Sangakkara

While speaking on Sky Sports, former Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara said England and India are favourites to win the ICC World Cup 2023 title. He also added that Sri Lanka can be a challenging team.

“I think England and India are going to be top favourites. We saw Sri Lanka play the last game and how they played throughout the Asia Cup, so they could be challenging for a playoff position. Once you’re in the playoffs, you’re a game away. You have a good day, you could be in the final,” the 45-year-old said.

England will play the tournament opener on October 5. They will face New Zealand in the match. India will play their opening match against Australia on October 5. Sri Lanka will face South Africa on October 7 in their first match of the tournament.

Notably, the last three editions of ODI World Cups were won by the home team. Hence, India is also the favourite to win the title. India last won the ODI World Cup in 2011, when they hosted the tournament on their soil.

10 teams are part of the ICC World Cup 2023. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and the Netherlands will battle against each other for the title.
