ICC World Cup 2023: Michael Vaughan Backs Harry Brook's WC Selection After His Ton In The Hundred, Says "My Guess Is…"

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan spoke on Harry Brook and wanted him to be included in the ODI World Cup squad of the Three Lions after he played a stupendous knock in the Hundred 2023 for the Northern Superchargers.

On Tuesday (August 22), Harry Brook played a stellar 105-run knock from 42 balls in The Hundred 2023. However, Brook’s stupendous innings went in vain after Northern Superchargers lost the match by eight wickets against Welsh Fire.

In the first innings, Harry Brook was the lone star for the Superchargers and no other batsmen could cross the 20-run mark. In the second innings, the Superchargers failed to defend the 159-run target as Jonny Bairstow and Stephen Eskinazi helped Welsh Fire to clinch a win in the 30th match of the tournament.

Recently, the 24-year-old was snubbed from England’s squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup to make space for Ben Stokes, who overturned his retirement decision to take part in the event.

In the Ashes 2023 against Australia, Harry Brook played a major role for the English squad to help them with Bazball cricket. In the five-match Test series against Pat Cummins’ side, the Three Lions drew the series by 2-2 but Australia retained the urn since the Aussies won the Ashes 2022.

Meanwhile, former England player Michael Vaughan feels that Harry Brook will make his place in the squad, and team selectors will be bound to include him after his recent form in the Hundred 2023 for the Northern Superchargers.

“Harry Brook is a different class. My guess is he will end up at the World Cup,” wrote Michael Vaughan.

Obviously it’s disappointing but I can’t do anything: Harry Brook

Last week after the squad was announced, Harry Broke opened up on his exclusion from the England team ahead of the ODI World Cup and said that he felt disappointed but there was nothing he could do.

Brook further added that Ben Stokes is one of the best players and he can’t complain about making a space for him.

“Obviously it’s disappointing but I can’t do anything about it now. You’ve just got to move on. I’m trying not to think about it anymore. I’ve not had much conversation with Matthew [Mott] or Jos [Buttler]. They said with Stokesy coming back I was probably going to miss out this time. He is one of the best players to ever play cricket, so I can’t really complain, can I?” said Harry Brook last week.

England will play their first match in the inaugural game of the tournament against New Zealand on October 5th at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
