Former Australian cricketer Greg Chappell shared valuable advice for Indian batter Virat Kohli ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023. He believes that every opposition knows him well and therefore he needs to decompress himself and keep things simple.

India will be hosting the ICC World Cup 2023 from October 5th to November 19th. It’s fair to say that Team India will be hot favorites to win the tournament because of the home conditions but also need to bring out their A-game and for that, someone needs to stand tall.

There’s no one better than Virat Kohli who can do that job. All the eyes will be on him as he has been India’s backbone for more than one decade. The right-hander has piled up a huge amount of runs for the team and with the kind of player he is he automatically becomes the main player for the event.

Greg Chappell feels that Virat Kohli needs to go into the World Cup 2023 fresh and he knows how to prepare. He added that if he ticks all the boxes, he will have a good tournament. Speaking to RevSportz, he explained:

“Virat is in that stage of his career where the opposition knows him inside out and he knows how hard it is to score runs at that level. It requires a special effort to score runs, and for that, you need to decompress yourself and just keep it simple.

“Virat also needs to go into these games mentally fresh and he knows what he needs to do. He has always prepared himself well. If He can achieve that, he will have a very good tournament.”

Greg Chappell while citing the example of Virat Kohli’s T20 World Cup 2022 knock against Pakistan pointed out how he played every ball on merit. Shedding light on the same, he explained:

“The way he played against Pakistan in T20 WC 2022 was the perfect exhibition of batting at that level. What I liked about it was that it was basic cricket. He played basically every ball on its merit and did to the bowlers what he wanted to do. He was the man in charge. It was a batting masterclass by the master himself.”

Virat Kohli was recently seen in action during the West Indies tour. He played blistering innings in two Test matches, smashing a half-century in the first game and a century in the second game. He then didn’t get an opportunity to bat in the ODI series.

Virat Kohli is currently enjoying his time off but the hustle doesn’t stop for him as he has been toiling hard in the gym. He will be seen in action during the Asia Cup 2023 now. He will be extremely crucial for the team in the tournament.
