Former India batting coach, Sanjay Bangar opened up on Virat Kohli’s chances of playing in the T20 World Cup in 2024 and the coach said he doesn’t see the reason why he shouldn’t take part after what he did for India in the previous 20-over World Cup.
While giving an interview to Cricket Basu, a namely YouTube channel, Sanjay Bangar said that there is a hundred percent chance that Virat Kohli will play in the next T20 World Cup after what he did last year.
“Hundred percent he should be there in the T20 team. What he did in the previous T20 World Cup and in those close matches, I don’t see the reason why he can’t be seen playing T20 cricket and next year’s T20 World Cup,” Bangar told
The former batting coach explained why the Men in Blues need big players like Virat Kohli in the squad since during big situations, emotions run high and one can’t make any mistakes that might cost them a match. Bangar further said that the strike rate and what you have done in IPL don’t matter.
“You know that in big situations where emotions run high, one small mistake could cost you dear. You need big players who have gone through those situations. At that point, it doesn’t really matter what your strike rate is, or what you have done in the IPL, in big games you require big match players. He (Kohli) showed such spirit in the India-Pakistan game,” he added.
Virat Kohli is such a batsman who can score a hundred without hitting a six: Sanjay Bangar
Sanjay Bangar praised Virat Kohli and said that the former India skipper can hit a century without smashing a six and that the player has already done that against Gujarat Titans in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
“Everyone has a style of scoring and it doesn’t mean that only big hitters can win a game. If that would have been the case, the West Indies team would have won all the T20 World Cups. Virat Kohli is such a batsman who can score a hundred without hitting a six. And he has done that. Against Gujarat Titans, he didn’t score a single six and yet scored a century. All his shots were grounded and that speaks volumes about Virat Kohli,” Bangar further added.
Currently, Virat Kohli’s main focus will be to win the upcoming ODI World Cup with the Men in Blues and end the 10-years trophyless drought. India will start their ODI World Cup 2023 voyage against Australia on October 8th at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Before ODI World Cup 2023, India will take part in the continental tournament, Asia Cup, and will play their first match on September 2nd against Pakistan at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka.
