ICC World Cup 2023: Virender Sehwag Snubs Virat Kohli As He Picks His Favourite To Score Most Runs In World Cup

Former India batsman Virender Sehwag has revealed his pick for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup???s highest run-scorer. The much-awaited tournament is scheduled to be played in India from October 5 to November 19. Having co-hosted the 50-over World Cup thrice in the past, India will be hosting the tournament alone for the first time.

The tournament will be played across 10 venues with a total of 10 teams participating in it. Apart from hosts India, England, Australia, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and the Netherlands will participate in the upcoming competition. In the league round, each team will play against the other nine teams once.

The top four teams will then make it to the semifinal before the two teams fight it out in the final. The first game of the competition and the final are scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Reigning champions England will lock horns against New Zealand in the tournament opener on October 5. On the other hand, India will open their campaign on October 8 against five-time world champions Australia in Chennai.

Virender Sehwag picks the highest run-scorer in ICC World Cup 2023:

In a recent video uploaded by the ICC on their official Instagram account, Virender Sehwag revealed his pick for the highest run-scorer at the upcoming World Cup. The former opener began by saying that openers will have a good opportunity to be the highest run-scorer because of the good batting conditions in India.

The last time the World Cup was held in the subcontinent, openers Tillakaratne Dilshan and Sachin Tendulkar had finished the competition as the top two run-scorers. While Dilshan had scored 500 runs for Sri Lanka, Tendulkar had scored 482 for India.

???I think, openers. India have good wickets so openers will get a lot of opportunities,??? said Virender Sehwag.

He then proceeded to pick India captain Rohit Sharma as his favorite to finish World Cup 2023 as the highest run-scorer. Virender Sehwag said that Rohit???s energy level and performance went up in the World Cup and backed him to make a difference with the bat in the forthcoming tournament.

???If I were to pick one, Rohit Sharma. There are a couple of names but I am an Indian and I should pick an Indian. So Rohit Sharma because when World Cup comes, his energy level, his performance goes up.

???And this time, he???s the captain also. So I am sure that he will make the difference and score a lot of runs,??? said Virender Sehwag.
