Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly recently opened up about Team India’s chances of clinching the title in the much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023 at home. Sourav Ganguly pointed out that the Men in Blue have failed to deliver in high-pressure games in the past.

India didn’t win the ICC trophy in the last decade, despite coming close to it. The team suffered semi-final exits in the last two editions of the ODI World Cup. Their last title victory came in the 2013 Champions Trophy under the leadership of legendary skipper MS Dhoni.

We Have A Solid Team – Sourav Ganguly

Reacting to Virender Sehwag’s comments that India is the favourite for the tournament, Sourav Ganguly highlighted that the hosts are favourites to win the title, but they need to get into winning momentum before the World Cup.

“Is #TeamIndia favourite because the World Cup is held in India or because we’re playing with strength and confidence @virendersehwag? Yes, we won against Aus in Aus, drew a series against England but then we lost to them both in big match situations. I think we have a solid team and a big chance, but we do need to get back to our winning ways before the #ICCworldCup23,” Ganguly wrote.

The Indian cricket team won the last two Test series in Australia. They managed to draw the red-ball series against England in their last tour. However, Team India lost to both teams in the semi-finals of the last two ODI World Cups.

Hum Pressure Lenge Nahi, Denge – Virender Sehwag

Earlier, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag stated that the Rohit Sharma-led team would dominate the marquee tournament on home soil.

“Ayi baat pressure ki, toh iss bar hum pressure lenge nahi, denge! Like champions! (When it comes to pressure, we won’t take it but we will give it to the opposition),” Sehwag replied on Yuvraj’s tweet.

Notably, India last won the ODI World Cup in 2011 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The Rohit Sharma-led team will be hoping to repeat its title victory in front of the home crowd. India will begin the campaign against Australia at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8.
