New Zealand delivered a dominant performance in the third Test against the West Indies, sealing a 323-run victory on Monday, December 22. Following the victory, New Zealand jumped from third to second place on the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 standings, strengthening their position in the title race.

The visitors were bowled out for 138 in their second innings at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui while chasing a target of 462 runs. Fast bowler Jacob Duffy took five wickets for the Black Caps. Spinner Ajaz Patel also played a key role, dismissing three batters as the West Indies struggled in the final match of the tour.

After choosing to bat first, openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway handled the early conditions with ease and scored centuries. Conway went on to score a double hundred. Rachin Ravindra chipped in with a crucial contribution as New Zealand posted a huge first-innings total of 575.

The West Indies responded with 420 runs in their first innings. Kavem Hodge remained unbeaten with a fifty, while Brandon King and several others made useful starts, though no one converted them into a big score.

New Zealand attacked again in the second innings. Latham and Conway once more laid a strong platform with centuries, while quick runs from Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra pushed the target beyond reach at 465.

The West Indies began their chase positively, but once the opening stand was broken, the innings collapsed. Jacob Duffy ran through the batting with a five-wicket haul as the Windies slid from 87/0 to 138 all out.

New Zealand sealed a 2-0 series victory over the West Indies and gained crucial points in the World Test Championship. New Zealand moved to second place in the WTC table with 28 points and a PCT of 77.78, moving ahead of South Africa.

Meanwhile, the West Indies are at the bottom of the table with a very low points percentage and have now lost seven of their eight matches in this WTC cycle, leaving them almost out of the race for the final.

Australia, who are at the top, beat England by 82 runs in the third Ashes Test to take a 3-0 lead and remain unbeaten in the cycle with six wins and a perfect points record. England are seventh after winning only two of their eight matches. India are placed sixth with a points percentage of 48.15.
